Otani Kisaku Shouten has been producing Takaoka doki (copperware) since the company’s founding in 1939. Takaoka doki is a traditional craft of Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, a town that was established over 400 years ago. Every product of Otani Kisaku Shoten is wholly processed by their craftsmen from the casting to finishing and coloring. They work mostly with products of Takaoka tekki (ironware) which is the origin of Takaoka doki. The iron casting is done with a traditional technique called sand mold casting, which creates the distinct weight and texture of the products.
